making a difference for the youth of Hawaii

The Kona-California Scholarship is a 501 c(3) non-profit California Corporation.  Each year  fundraisers are preformed to determine what the annual award will be given.

For the 2011-2012 academic year,  three scholarships will be given in the following amounts:
1st place at $3000
2nd place at $2000
3rd place at $1000.

Seniors and graduates from Big Island high schools who plan to study full time in California after graduation are encouraged to apply. The selection committee will judge applicants based on their potential to pursue life opportunities in California. The focus will be on honest, ambitious, and unique responses to the essay questions rather than on GPA or financial need.

Founders Travis Brown and Max Robinson both moved away from home on the Big Island to attend universities in California.  They quickly learned that college on the mainland is very expensive. To pay their tuition and living expenses, Travis and Max each used money from family, scholarships, and their own savings. They both worked part-time jobs, and Travis even took out loans to help pay for school. The recipients of the Kona-California Scholarship can use its award to help cover any part of their expenses.

The Kona-California Scholarship committee welcomes public comments and inquiries.
